Il fenomeno del “Land grabbing” è una nuova forma di colonialismo. Significa letteralmente “appropriazione di terre” rurali e cioè di terreni coltivati dalle popolazioni locali che vengono espropriati da investitori internazionali per destinarli a un uso commerciale.
